What fine new camera does Fujifilm have up their sleeves for CES 2008? They plan to roll out the FinePix Z100fd ultra-compact, 8-MegaPixel digital camera designed for the “stylistically influenced consumer.” While the hype surrounding this camera reads more like a fashion ad - “Sporting a totally redesigned metal body with a unique ‘diagonal slide’ lens cover and illuminated ‘Z’ logo, the FinePix Z100fd is available in four color schemes, ‘Shell Pink’, ‘Satin Silver’, ‘Cappuccino Brown’ and ‘Tuxedo Black’ — the camera also features some state-of-the-art technology.

For instance, despite being only 19.8mm thick, the FinePix Z100fd includes a mid-range Fujinon 5x optical zoom lens, a high-resolution 2.7″, 230k pixel LCD with a reinforced glass coating for scratch-free durability and sensitivity settings of up to ISO 1600 ( so you don’t need to use a flash), and is the first in the so-called “Z” series featuring Fujifilm’s Dual Image Stabilization, which simply put, provides anti-blur protection.

Other noteworthy features:

Blog Mode: Automatically resizes any image captured to a properly sized 640×480 (QVGA) or 320 x 240 image size, right in the camera, saving time from downloading it and adjusting it on a PC.

Face Detection: Optimizes focus/exposure for up to 10 faces.

i-Flash Intelligent Flash: Detects subtle lighting differences within a scene, and then varies the flash intensity accordingly.

Movie Mode: Captures VGA quality movie clips at 30 frames per second with sound. Great for when you’re out and you don’t have your video camera with you.

IrSimple: Infrared communication via IrSimple technology for fast, easy wireless image transfer to a compatible device.

A perfect example of form meets function. The FinePix debuts this week at CES and will be available February 15th at Amazonfor $249.95.
