First, the bad news: the admins of The Pirate Bay are being charged with assisting copyright infringement by US big media companies. “Assisting”, eh? Guess the fat cats can’t nail them on actual copyright infringement when they don’t actually host the content.

Now, the good news: Whether or not the charges prosper, The Pirate Bay will not go down.

In a response to the charges, Pirate Bay co-founder Peter Sunde (”Brokep”) told TorrentFreak: “We’re of course interested in seeing the outcome of the case, and we welcome that they want to try to criminalize something we already know is legal.”

The users of the site don’t have to worry that the site will be taken offline though, no matter what the court decides. “In case we lose the pending trial (yeah right) there will still not be any changes to the site. The Pirate Bay will keep operating just as always. We’ve been here for years and we will be here many more,” Sunde said.

The Pirate Bay is not hosted in Sweden anymore. In fact, the Pirate Bay crew claims that they themselves have no idea where the servers are located. After the raid on their servers in 2006, they decided that it was better not to know where they are. One thing is sure though, they are not hosted in just a single country.

Now, the best news: The Pirate Bay celebrates its one millionth torrent.

This week we’ve hit some magic numbers. We’re tracking over 1 million torrents. We have had over 10 million simultaneous peers on the trackers. We’re at 2.5 million registered users (and they are active as well).

The pirates will always be faster than the navy, baby.

Lindsay Campbell recently left the hit financial show (and CBS acquisition) Wallstrip to host CBS’ upcoming political show Mob Logic. Irreverence is key to Wallstrip’s success, and it seems like Mob Logic will be every bit as irreverent as Wallstrip. Their latest teaser is a parody dub of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After opening their revenue-sharing partner program to applications from North American video creators, YouTube now wants to pay talent from across the pond. They’ve opened their partner program to applications from British video creators. YouTube is localized for eighteen countries; expect the partner program to expand into those territories soon enough.

If you’re a British YouTube star, then go make some shillings at uk.youtube.com/partners. Any bets on who’ll make the new UK partners’ list? Barry Aldridge here has some suggestions.

Is the Dramatic Lemur the next Drama Prairie Dog? We’ll just have to wait and see if people will mash it up. Apparently, zany animal reactions make great meme fodder inside online video.

Here’s a tip for tourism agencies around the world: give vloggers free tours. The Philippine Department of Tourism is getting a social media blitz by giving Filipina-American vlogger Christine “Happy Slip” Gambito a free tour of their country. Here she is frolicking on one of their clear-water beaches.

Sure, it’s not Oprah, but the best person to interview online video stars is someone who’s an online video star in his own right. The first episode of The Bubble Gum Tree Show, Kevin Nalts‘ weekly interview series with online video stars, features Mark Day. They’re both comedians, so this pilot episode is frickin’ hilarious.

Kevin’s done this sort of thing on Metacafe before, but I suspect he’ll do much better on the more popular, community-driven, personality-oriented YouTube. In fact, with more and more talents bubbling up inside online video, I think he’ll exceed his target of fifty interviewees. This series could have second-season potential.

tsa-blog

After spending seven years in the travel industry I built up a pretty good list of gripes and annoyances with the procedure of booking travel, selling travel and actually traveling.

The Transportation Safety Administration has launched a blog where they want travelers to share their opinions and suggestions for travel.

From their website:

There is no time to talk, to listen, to engage with each other. There isn’t much opportunity for our Security Officers to explain the ‘why,’ of what we ask you to do at the checkpoint, just the ‘what’ needs to be done to clear security. The result is that the feedback and venting ends up circulating among passengers with no real opportunity for us to learn from you or vice versa. We get feedback verbally and non-verbally at the checkpoint and see a lot in the blogs, again without a real dialogue.

What’s your biggest pet peeve about the industry? Have you spent much time lately at an airport? What griped you the most?

PED.gif

You own one of the most elegantly designed products in recent history, the iPhone. Are you going to showcase it in some retro, scruffy stand? No, not you, you’ve got taste. That’s why you want the Ped3.

Not only does it rotate 360 degrees, but the rubber coated metal grips allow full use of ports/controls while you admire your device. You can charge it, if you add the cable (that’s what the split in the center is for.)

Separate versions for the iPhone (PED3) and iPod Touch (PED3-T) will cost you a measly $39.99 at Thought Out.

mi-share-2-1.jpg

If you love music and you love sharing, meet miShare, a single-button, smart gadget that enables sharing files and playlists between iPods. Simply attach the source and iPods (sans cables and computers) press miShare’s can’t-miss big button and presto changeo!

mishare-1.jpg

miShare allows you to navigate and share music, video and photo. Copy your media one file at a time or by batch. miShare uses the On-The-Go playlist for multiple songs—simply create an On-The-Go playlist on the source iPod by selecting by song, artist, album, or even playlist.

Single music files take about ten seconds to transfer once the iPods are attached, depending on the file sizes and videos up to half minute. (miShare runs USB 2.0 “Full-Speed,” which is rated at more than one megabyte per second. Our real-world experience is about 500KB/second.)

Compatible devices:
* Minis, Nano, 3G, 4G, Video (5G), and Classic (6G) iPod models
* miShare does not currently work with the iPhone or iPod Touch
