With Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen out in theaters, weapons of destruction are pretty cool to watch on the big screen. Wouldn’t it be nice if we already had some of that technology available to us for real? Perhaps we do. Check-out this video we uncovered of a the F-35B fighter jet that does a little bit of transforming of its own.
I finally watched the motion picture tonight at IMAX. Definitely the way to see it! Very good movie, but even less kid friendly than the first one.

Tonight I was watching America’s Got Talent with my family and enjoying some pretty impressive dance performances by individuals and groups. It reminded me of the great dancing I would see on “America’s Best Dance Crew” so I started searching around YouTube for some other great performances. My favorite group was the Jabbawockeez.
Here’s a performance I found of them performing at the Night Club Ultra Lounge show. I didn’t realize they were also on America’s Got Talent. The group also performed at the New Children on the Block concert that was just here in Indianapolis. It’s good to see them continuing to get exposure and media coverage for their talent.

I encountered a software that’s free, and marketed as having no string attached which also labels itself as the fastest disk imaging software.
The Macrium reflect is a free disk imaging software which has the following key features:
1. You would be able to create a disk image while Windows is running using Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS)
2. The image can be put to network, USB, Firewire drives and DVDs
3. There is a built in scheduler
4. There are 32 bit and native 64 bit versions
5. It has industry leading compression levels and speeds
6. It has HTML log files
7. There’s a built in CD/DVD packet writing engine
8. It supports packer writing to DVD DL media on Windows Vista
9. Linux based rescue CD with network access and full GUID. The size is 6.5MB

Microsoft Word is one of those applications that we’ve probably all used at some point in our lives. If you’re in the business world, odds are you’re probably using it on an nearly daily basis. Being in business, having a way to get more work done in either the same or less amount of time is an underlying goals many of us probably shoot for in our work. That leads us to the question then.
Are you being as efficient at using Microsoft Word as you can be? Do you know many of the keyboard shortcuts you can take advantage of so you don’t have to move your hands off the keyboard and onto the mouse? It surprises me how many times I work with individuals and when I do even the simplest keyboard shortcuts I hear “How’d you do that?!”
The Internet4Classrooms.com website has some common Microsoft Word shortcuts that are the standards for use that you’ll probably find yourself using at least once nearly every document you create.
There are shortcuts for quickly formatting your text, moving around your document, editing text and finding areas of text to reuse in other sections of your Word document.
It’s not just about keyboard shortcuts either. Do you find yourself always changing the default spacing, font, margins or other settings in your document before you really get started? Do you always insert a header/footer design or perhaps a company logo?
All of these things can be saved as preferences or automated to some degree. What would you like to know how to do? Let me know in the comments and I have the ability to work on putting together some tutorial posts to help you and share with the rest of our readers.

I’m hitting a tiny bit of a theme with my posts. Can you tell it’s that time of the week when I go through my spam filters and check for false positives? That’s what I’m doing and I’m reminded of something that to me is extremely simple to identify. I’m not sure why messages fitting this scenario aren’t immediately flagged as spam and never seen by the user.
I don’t know how many times I’ve gone into my email and noticed messages with a weird date and time. In my view if an email is sent to me with a “Sent On” date prior to the Pony Express being in service, it’s more than likely a spam email. Even if it’s a legitimate email from a reliable source, I probably don’t want to see it. When they realize I’m not getting their emails or responding, then we have the ability to talk about fixing their time server on their personal.
The same would be true for any date where “Sent On” is in the future of the current date. To me those are obvious issues and could be deleted at the server level. Anyone else concur with me here?
I know you can’t clump emails sent in the wee hours of the morning as always spam, I believe they are frequently from senders you may not want to see. Perhaps these could immediately be tagged as junk and kept for review. In fact, I think some email servers already do this as a first level trigger of potential spam sources.

I can’t imagine what it would be like to have one of my kids go missing. What might be worse is to have your child kidnapped. If that were to occur you know that there is someone that has specifically taken your child, they’re not just missing and perhaps lost or just by themselves.
If that would occur to you, you’d do anything to try and get them back. Why wouldn’t you do the same thing for someone else’s child?
With Wireless Amber Alerts you can be notified immediately of events where children have gone missing or kidnapped.
The national Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative is a voluntary partnership between the wireless industry, the United States Department of Justice, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Kids (NCMEC), to distribute AMBER Alerts to wireless subscribers who opt in to receive the messages and are able to receive text messages on their wireless devices.
It’s just a text message and a phone bill. Isn’t that miniscule in comparison to helping return a child or another person to their rightful guardian?

Are you in the hunt for a notebook cooler today? I am as my current laptop cooler from Belkin was busted after 5 months of continuous use. Ok, maybe I didn’t take care of it as I thought the previous cooler awardee is durable. My previous cooler is from Targus and it is still going strong after 2 1/2 years. For long stretches of months, I wouldn’t turn off the Targus cooler and I couldn’t ask for more.
Anyways, the Zalman ZM-NC1500W looks promising, and below are the key features:
Premium high quality 2mm thick aluminum treated with S.A. Surface Processing.
* S.A. (Sand Blasting, Anodizing)
Sleek design incorporating a high quality 2mm thick aluminum panel with a fine curvature and great cooling performance.
Silicon “shoes” on feet to prevent slippage and provide cooler stability. The Rubber Grip Strip prevents the notebook from sliding.

The new MacBook Pros now all come with sealed batteries. This was just once the territory of the mighty 17 inch model. Not anymore. The current refresh brought that technology to its smaller siblings, the 15 inch and the current addition to the MacBook Pro line-up the 13 inch.
MacBook Pro Family, Image courtesy of Apple Inc.
According to Walt Mossberg who had the chance to test both the 13 and 15 inch MacBook Pro and put it through the paces of his own battery test, both laptops performed well. The 13 inch lasted a slighty below the 5 hour mark while the 15 inch was 21 minutes above the 5 hour marker. This says well considering no power saving feature was turned on and the screen brightness was cranked up. In normal usage, expect battery life to be even slightly higher.
I for one was at first skeptical of the notion that I can’t replace the battery of my laptop. However looking back, ever since I’ve owned a laptop, I’ve never purchased a spare battery. Hmmm… I guess I just like the thought that I could replace it if I wanted to. Mossberg cites in his article that only less than 5% of consumers actually buy spare batteries. This figure was from NPD, a research firm. I would believe that this figure is close to the truth.
I guess we just need to let go of our need to control things and trust that technology works. Apple was able to increase battery size and life in its MacBook Pro line of computers without adding weight or heft. I guess its a decent trade-off to the fact that you can’t replace it yourself. Apple also claims that their batteries will last up to 5 years. So by the time it’s time to change batteries it’s also time to change personal.
So we’ll see in the days to come if indeed sealed batteries are the way to go.

I loaded Gmail tonight and was welcomed with a notice that there’s been a tiny bit of an interface change. They’ve added some AJAXy ability to drag and drop messages onto your defined labels to label the messages.

You can see the little handles on each message line on the far left side of the message. You can then drag the message on top of the label you want to apply to the message. Not the major improvement from their perspective, but I really like the fact they moved the labels up to be positioned right under the standard groupings of messages.
The one thing I’m not sure how I like yet, is that when I drag a message onto one of the labels it immediately archives the message out of my Inbox. I frequently will add labels to messages but leave them in the Inbox. That may take some getting adjusted to.
